NZ icon in a pure soy candle

Celebrate New Zealand with our pure Soy candle in a recycled Fern bottle

Part of the NEW’d range, the Fern bottle comes in two beautiful and popular fragrances; Citrus Blackcurrant and Vanilla. The bottles are cut and finished by hand here in Golden Bay, then the pure soy wax is poured by hand, each wick is carefully straightened by hand to ensure a clean burning candle that lasts 45 hours. The Fern candle makes a great gift, and travels well in its matching recycled cardboard box. The iconic Fern emblem is embossed on the bottles, which can be reused again as a glass.

A hive of activity…

We have all been incredibly busy bees at Living Light, a veritable hive of activity in the lead up to the Gift Fair. We are releasing an incredibly exciting new range of products for the summer season, including our first Festive Collection! New colours, new fragrances with a new catalogue to match! Stitchbird in our Midst

We are fortunate to have in our midst the talents of one Stitchbird. We know her as Ngaire here, famous as the designer of the Celebration Collection, she is a very talented candlemaker and one of the Design Team. Ngaire also comes up with all the fabulous colours, making dye recipes and matching them to fragrances.

When she is not at Living Light pouring, sculpting and designing wax objects Ngaire is the seamstress Stitchbird.  Stitchbird sources vintage fabrics, often groovy ties, and sews amazing creations that can be worn. As I write a pair of Stitchbird mitts keep my wee mitts warm ! We love the gorgeous retro pinnies she wears at work too ( and the Poo Bear t.shirt).  Stitchbird has a store on the New Zealand design website Felt. Our Candles Travel the World

Our new Singapore distributors, Lynn and Joe visited the Nelson Gallery this week …Here they are with Cynthia

Lynn and Joe will have a retail showroom called Odore in Singapore stocking Living Light. We also have a new distributor in Japan.  Haruo Uesugi of Bolzano Company will be retailing our candles all over Japan. A warm welcome to our new distributors!

Meet Mary…

       Meet …Mary, one of our candlemakers.. Mary has been making candles for ten    years ! The sweetest soul, Mary lights up our lunchroom with her character and crazy stories . Mary makes the Granite candles, and often the Roses, Hearts, Icicles and Soy Jars... Legend! Marys 11th anniversary is coming up in October, please send all presents and shared smoko contributions to the Factory.

Melt into our July special

What better way to warm up in winter than with our Fire Starters. Made of recycled wax, these wax and straw bars make lighting the fire fun ! Simply break off a piece and place amongst the kindling, watch the fire roar straight away. With their luscious red colour they look great displayed in a stack, or filling up a kindling basket. Triple Birthday !

One of the quirky perks of working at Living Light is the Shared Smokos …we celebrate birthdays and each persons “anniversary”, marking when they started working at Living Light. The last week of May is birthday time for Sinead, Nimesh and Cynthia , Happy Birthday !

Abandon ship!

Strange day at Living Light…if you are wondering why noone is answering the phone , Sinead is in Hamner Springs celebrating her 21st birthday – Happy Birthday Sinead ! – and the rest of the crew can’t make it to the Factory because of massive flooding in the Bay! Hard to say at this stage , but looks like it is worse than the recent “fifty year” flood..Hopefully we will be back in the Factory tomorrow , as long as it doesn’t start raining again…
